Legal basis
Article 9(1)(b) of Directive (EU) 2019/1937 requires organisations to acknowledge receipt of a report within seven days. All EU Member States have transposed this obligation into national law with substantially the same deadline.
What the acknowledgement must (and must not) do
- Confirm receipt only — not admit facts or liability
- Be sent within 7 calendar days (unless national law specifies otherwise)
- Preserve confidentiality of the reporter
- Be documented in the electronic register
- Must NOT prejudge the outcome of the investigation
